Women in Blues Manitoba Concert #4

October 16, 2010 marks the 4th Women in Blues Manitoba Concert and fundraiser at Winnipeg's Home of the Blues, The Windsor Hotel. This year's stellar line up includes Tracy K Mastaler, Kathy Kennedy, Angel Calnek & Claire Still. These are 4 of Manitoba's very own talented Blues women. Not only will these Blues ladies have the chance to perform for Winnipeg's true blues supporters, they will also be recorded live while making the second Women in Blues Manitoba CD. This unique event will also be hosted by CBC's Manitoba Music Corner host, Kinsey Posen. One of Manitoba's finest music scene supporters. If that wasn't enough good news, the event is also supported by Blues Brother and House of Blues Radio host Dan Akroyd with a mention on his radio show, and a case of his Crystal Head vodka for good measure! All for the love of the Blues and Manitoba's Blues torch women!

Women in Blues Manitoba is a concert event founded in 2005 by one of these Winnipeg Blues Women. Kathy Kennedy has shaped WIB Mb through sheer labor of love. As a blues artist, she knows the challenge of finding opportunity and support, and has taken the initiative to "make her own luck". "This type of event has never happened in Manitoba and it's about time". "It's not only necessary to create these types of blues events in Manitoba, but a concert of this calibre and potential demands responsibility and respect", she says.  She hopes to start the first WIB Mb festival event with headliners such as Canada's Sue Foley, Rita Chiarelli, or Roxanne Potvin in the near future. This would offer even more potential opportunity for up and coming blues women as opening acts. She also wants to draw attention to Winnipeg's Blues venue, The Windor Hotel. It is not random choice that the concert is booked there for the second time. Back in February, Kennedy arranged a rally upon the rumored demolition of the Windsor. She collected 3500 signatures, letters from city council and famous musicians in support of the venue, as well as writing the historical buildings committee in an attempt to achieve historical status. She believes this event only helps prove the worth of Winnipeg's iconic Blues room.

The first Women in Blues Mb CD was released in February 2009, and now has a place in John Einerson's Manitoba Music Experience Museum as a permanent fixture. It has received substantial international and national radio play.

Doors open at 8 pm, Oct 16 at The Windsor Hotel, 187 Garry St.. Concert begins at 9pm sharp. For more information: www.katblues.ca
